Quick navigation

What is zineryte?

Zineryt is a prescription topical solution containing erythromycin (a macrolide antibiotic) and zinc acetate. The combination acts antibacterial and anti-inflammatory against acne vulgaris.

The zinc additive has a double advantage: it enhances the antibacterial effect of erythromycin and has itself anti-inflammatory and sebostatic (talg production inhibiting) properties. In addition, zinc can delay the development of resistance to erythromycin.

Zineryt is supplied as powder and solvent which are mixed before the first application. The finished solution is applied 2x daily.

Active Ingredients & Mechanism of Action

Active ingredient: Erythromycin 4%, Zinkacetat 1,2%

Erythromycin and zinc act synergistic:

Erythromycin:

  • Inhibits bacterial protein synthesis (50S-Ribosom)
  • Bacteriostatic against Cutibacterium acnes
  • Reduces inflammatory reaction

zinc acetate:

  • Strengthens the antibacterial effect
  • inhibits 5-alpha reductase (less tallow production)
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Promotes wound healing
  • Reduces resistance development against erythromycin

Combination effect: The combination is more effective than erythromycin alone and shows a lower resistance rate.
