minoxidil

The externally applied active ingredient against hair loss – free from recipes and readily combinable with finasteride.

Quick navigation

What is minoxidil?

Minoxidil is an active ingredient for the external treatment of inherited hair loss. Unlike finasteride, it is not taken, but applied directly to the scalp.

Originally developed as a blood pressure medication, the hair growth-promoting effect was discovered as a side effect. Today, Minoxidil is one of the best investigated and most effective agents for hair loss.

available as:

  • Solution (2% or 5%)
  • foam (5%)

Advantages of Minoxidil:

  • Recipe-free
  • Suitable for men and women (different concentrations)
  • Can be combined with finasteride
  • External application with little systemic side effects

Active Ingredients & Mechanism of Action

Active ingredient: Minoxidil

The precise mechanism of action of Minoxidil is not fully clarified, but several effects contribute to the effect:

Improved blood circulation:* * Minoxidil extends the blood vessels in the scalp and thus improves the nutrient supply of the hair follicles.

**2. Extension of growth phase:* * The hair passes through various phases. Minoxidil extends the active growth phase (anages) and shortens the resting phase.

**3. Hair follicles stimulation:* * Minoxidil activates certain ion channels in the cells of the hair follicles and thus promotes growth.

The result:

  • Hair loss is slowed down with many users
  • Existing hair gets stronger
  • In some cases new hair grows
  • The effect is best on the vertex

Language: First results after 2-4 months, optimal effect after 4-12 months.
