What is Wartec?
Wartec® is a cream containing podophyllotoxin at a lower concentration (0.15%) than Condylox® (0.5%). It is used to treat external genital warts (condylomas).
Wartec® Cream is intended for small, circumscribed, non-inflamed genital warts.
Active Ingredients & Mechanism of Action
Active ingredient: Podophyllotoxin (0,15 %)
Mechanism of action:
- Identical to Condylox® (podophyllotoxin)
- Inhibition of mitosis through tubulin binding
- Necrosis of the wart cells
- Lower concentration (0.15% vs. 0.5%)
Who is it suitable for?
Wartec® Cream is suitable for:
- Adults with external genital warts
- Small, circumscribed, non-inflamed warts
- Self-treatment at home
Not suitable:
- Internal warts
- Children
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Available Dosages
Treatment cycle:
- Twice daily (morning and evening) for 3 consecutive days
- Then a 4-day break
- A maximum of 4 cycles (4 weeks)
Amount to apply:
- Apply a thin layer to the warts
- No more than 10 warts measuring 1 to 10 mm, total treatment area no more than 1.5 cm²
How to Take
Application: 1. Clean the wart area 2. Apply a thin layer of Wartec® to the warts 3. Rub in gently 4. Allow to dry 5. Wash your hands
Important notes:
- Spare healthy skin as much as possible
- Take a break if severe irritation occurs
- Follow the schedule of 3 days on / 4 days off
- Do not use for longer than 4 weeks
Contraindications
Wartec® must not be used in:
- Hypersensitivity to podophyllotoxin
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Children
- Internal genital warts
- Open wounds
Use with caution in:
- Warts covering large areas
- Immunosuppressed patients
Possible Side Effects
Very common (≥ 10%):
- Local redness, itching, burning
- Skin abrasions
Rare:
- Pain at the application site
- Swelling
- Crusting
- Bleeding

No, different wart treatments should not be used at the same time. This can lead to excessive skin reactions. Only switch therapy once the previous one has been completed.
The warts first turn whitish, then begin to come off and become smaller. Redness and mild inflammation in the treatment area are normal. Visible improvement usually occurs after 1–2 cycles.
