What is vinantol?

Vigantol® is a vitamin D3 preparation (Colecalciferol) in droplet form (oil solution) used for the prevention and treatment of vitamin D deficiency diseases. The drop shape allows a particularly flexible dosage.

Vigantol® oil contains 20,000 I.E. per milliliter (about 30 drops). It is suitable both for pachitis prophylaxis in infants and for the treatment of a vitamin D deficiency in adults.

Vigantol® is prescribed in higher doses (for the treatment of a serious deficiency).

Active Ingredients & Mechanism of Action

Active ingredient: Colecalciferol (Vitamin D3)

Active mechanism:

  • Colecalciferol is converted into 25-OH vitamin D in the liver
  • Activated in the kidney to active 1.25-(OH)2 vitamin D (calcitriol)
  • Calcitriol regulates calcium/phosphate metabolism

Advantages of the drop shape:

  • Very flexible dosage (dropper)
  • Can be mixed in food or drinks
  • Especially suitable for patients with swallowing problems
  • Oil solution improves fat-based absorption
  • dosing from a few hundred to a thousand I.E. possible

Biover Availability: Vitamin D3 is well absorbed as an oil solution. The absorption is independent of a greasy meal, since the oil serves as a carrier.
