SPIROPENT tablets contain the active ingredient clenbuterol hydrochloride (0.02 mg per tablet), a beta-2 sympathomimetic. In bronchial asthma and bronchitis, it widens the airways narrowed by spasm and thus makes breathing easier.

The tablets are used to treat chronic obstructive airway diseases with reversible narrowing, such as bronchial asthma or chronic obstructive bronchitis with or without emphysema.

SPIROPENT is not suitable for treating an acute asthma attack and is used in addition to long-term anti-inflammatory therapy.

Clenbuterol acts as a selective beta-2 agonist:

Mechanism of action:

• Activates beta-2 adrenoceptors
• Relaxes the bronchial muscles
• Widens the airways
• Promotes mucociliary clearance

Special features:

• Oral bioavailability: approx. 90%
• Duration of action: up to 14 hours
• More selective for beta-2 receptors than older substances
• Also acts systemically (tablet)

Time course:

• Onset of action: 15-30 minutes
• Maximum effect: 2-3 hours
• Duration of action: up to 14 hours

SPIROPENT tablets are suitable for:

• Adults and children aged 12 years and older with chronic obstructive airway diseases with reversible narrowing (e.g., bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive bronchitis)

Not suitable:

• for treating an acute asthma attack
• as a replacement for long-term anti-inflammatory therapy

Usual dose (adults and children aged 12 years and older):

• 1 tablet each morning and evening (0.02 mg clenbuterol hydrochloride)

Adjustments as directed by a doctor:

• with longer treatment, 2 × ½ tablet daily is often sufficient
• with more severe breathing difficulties, up to 2 × 2 tablets daily on the first 2–3 days, then a lower dose

Maximum dose:

• in adults, no more than 5 tablets per day

How to take:

• Take without chewing, with meals and with sufficient liquid, preferably with a glass of drinking water.
• Do not take while lying down.

Important notes:

• Do not increase the dose without medical instruction — an increasing need is a sign that the condition is worsening.
• Continue long-term anti-inflammatory therapy alongside.
• If your breathing difficulties suddenly worsen, seek medical help immediately.

Do not use in case of:

• Hypersensitivity to clenbuterol
• Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy
• Tachyarrhythmias
• Severe thyrotoxicosis

Use with caution in:

• Cardiovascular diseases
• Hyperthyroidism
• Diabetes mellitus
• Pheochromocytoma

Pregnancy: Only if strictly indicated. Clenbuterol inhibits labor contractions.

Breastfeeding: Passes into breast milk. Not recommended.

Common:

• Tremor (shaking)
• Palpitations
• Restlessness, nervousness
• Headache

Uncommon:

• Sleep disturbances
• Muscle cramps
• Nausea
• Sweating

Rare:

• Cardiac arrhythmias
• Hypokalemia
• Changes in blood pressure

Note: Systemic side effects are more common with oral intake than with inhalation.

Interactions:

• Beta blockers – cancel out the effect of clenbuterol
• MAO inhibitors – increased cardiac effect
• Tricyclic antidepressants – increased cardiac effects
• Diuretics – risk of hypokalemia
• Other sympathomimetics – additive effects
