What is Sildenafil 1A Pharma?

Sildenafil 1A Pharma is a generic of the PDE-5 inhibitor sildenafil.

1A Pharma is part of the Hexal group and stands for high-quality generics.

Active Ingredients & Mechanism of Action

Active ingredient: Sildenafil

Identical to other sildenafil products: PDE-5 inhibition leads to an improved erection during sexual stimulation.

Who is it suitable for?

Men with erectile dysfunction.

Available Dosages

25 mg, 50 mg, 100 mg

How to Take

30-60 minutes before sex, no more than once a day.

Contraindications

You must not take Sildenafil 1A Pharma in the following cases:

  • Use of nitrates of any kind or nitric oxide donors (e.g. amyl nitrite) – sildenafil increases their blood-pressure-lowering effect
  • Use of guanylate cyclase stimulators such as riociguat – possible drop in blood pressure with symptoms
  • Conditions in which sexual activity is inadvisable for you, e.g. severe cardiovascular disease such as unstable angina pectoris or severe heart failure
  • Recent stroke or heart attack
  • Low blood pressure (below 90/50 mmHg)
  • Severe hepatic impairment
  • Loss of vision in one eye due to NAION (non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy), regardless of whether the loss of vision was related to previous use of a PDE-5 inhibitor
  • Hereditary degenerative retinal disorders such as retinitis pigmentosa
  • Hypersensitivity to sildenafil or any of the other ingredients

Possible Side Effects

Very common (at least 1 in 10 patients):

  • Headache

Common (1 to fewer than 10 in 100 patients):

  • Facial redness (flushing), hot flushes
  • Stuffy nose
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea, indigestion (dyspepsia)
  • Visual disturbances, changes in colour vision, blurred vision

Rare (1 to fewer than 10 in 10,000 patients):

  • Heart attack, unstable angina pectoris, heart rhythm disorders, sudden cardiac death
  • Stroke, seizures
  • Damage to the optic nerve due to reduced blood flow (NAION), blockage of a retinal blood vessel
  • Deafness
  • Severe skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • Prolonged erection or priapism: If an erection lasts longer than 4 hours, seek medical help immediately.

Other side effects can occur uncommonly or rarely.

If you experience a sudden visual disturbance of any kind, stop taking Sildenafil 1A Pharma and see a doctor immediately.

Interactions

Do not use at the same time:

  • Nitrates of any kind and nitric oxide donors (e.g. amyl nitrite): sildenafil enhances their blood-pressure-lowering effect; concomitant use is contraindicated.
  • Riociguat: concomitant use with sildenafil is contraindicated, as blood pressure may drop further.
  • Nicorandil: because of its nitrate component, a serious interaction with sildenafil is possible.

Not recommended or use with caution:

  • Ritonavir: concomitant use is not advised. In any case, the sildenafil dose must not exceed 25 mg within 48 hours.
  • Other CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g. ketoconazole, itraconazole, erythromycin, saquinavir, cimetidine): they increase sildenafil levels in the blood; a starting dose of 25 mg should be considered. Grapefruit juice can slightly increase the level.
  • Alpha blockers (e.g. doxazosin): in a small number of susceptible people, a drop in blood pressure with symptoms can occur, most likely within 4 hours of taking the medicine. Before starting, you should be stabilized on the alpha blocker; a starting dose of 25 mg should be considered.
  • Sacubitril/valsartan: greater lowering of blood pressure; caution when starting treatment with sildenafil.
  • Strong CYP3A4 inducers (e.g. rifampicin): they can markedly reduce sildenafil levels.
  • Other PDE-5 inhibitors or other treatments for erectile dysfunction: the combination is not recommended.
