What is Petibelle?
Petibelle is a combined contraceptive pill. Each tablet contains 3 mg drospirenone and 0.03 mg ethinylestradiol. You take one tablet daily for 21 days, followed by a 7-day break.
Drospirenone also has antiandrogenic properties. However, Petibelle is indicated only for contraception, not for the treatment of PMS symptoms or acne.
Active Ingredients & Mechanism of Action
Active ingredient: Drospirenon 3 mg, Ethinylestradiol 0,02 mg
How Petibelle works:
- Inhibition of ovulation
- Thickening of the cervical mucus
- Antiandrogenic and diuretic effect due to drospirenone
Who is it suitable for?
Petibelle is intended for contraception in women after their first menstrual period and before menopause.
Available Dosages
- 21 film-coated tablets, followed by a 7-day break
- 3 mg drospirenone + 0.03 mg ethinylestradiol
How to Take
One tablet daily at about the same time, for 21 days. This is followed by a 7-day break, during which withdrawal bleeding usually occurs. After the break, you start the next pack.
Contraindications
Petibelle must not be used in cases of:
- current or previous venous thromboembolism (e.g. deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism), a known hereditary or acquired predisposition to it, or major surgery with prolonged immobilization
- current or previous arterial thromboembolism (e.g. heart attack), early stages such as angina pectoris, or a known hereditary or acquired predisposition to it
- stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA), including in the past
- high risk of thrombosis due to several risk factors or one serious risk factor such as diabetes with blood vessel damage, severe high blood pressure or a severe lipid metabolism disorder
- a history of migraine with focal neurological symptoms
- current or previous severe liver disease, as long as liver values have not returned to normal
- current or previous liver tumors (benign or malignant)
- severe renal insufficiency or acute kidney failure
- known or suspected sex hormone-dependent malignant tumors (e.g. of the genital organs or the breast)
- unexplained vaginal bleeding
- hypersensitivity to the active substances or any of the other ingredients
- concomitant use of hepatitis C medicines containing ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir and dasabuvir, glecaprevir/pibrentasvir or sofosbuvir/velpatasvir/voxilaprevir
Petibelle is not indicated during pregnancy. Women over 35 who continue to smoke are strongly advised to use a different method of contraception.
Possible Side Effects
Possible side effects: headaches, breast tenderness, rarely thrombosis.
Frequently Asked Questions
Petibelle is not the same product as Yaz. Both contain drospirenone and ethinylestradiol, but Petibelle contains 0.03 mg instead of 0.02 mg ethinylestradiol per tablet. You take Petibelle for 21 days, followed by a 7-day break.
