Nystalocal® Ointment

Nystalocal® is an ointment with three active ingredients: nystatin against yeasts (Candida), chlorhexidine against bacteria, and the corticosteroid dexamethasone against inflammation and itching.

It is used for skin conditions that are complicated or infected by yeasts or bacteria, for example chafing in skin folds, inflammation of the glans and foreskin, anal eczema, or itching in the external female genital area. Fungal infections caused by Candida alone also respond; Candida should be reliably confirmed beforehand.

Because Nystalocal® contains a corticosteroid, it is only used for a short time: no more than 10 days.

• Nystatin inhibits the growth of yeasts.
• Chlorhexidine dihydrochloride is effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria.
• Dexamethasone has anti-inflammatory, anti-itch, and antiallergic effects.

The hydrophilic ointment base ensures good contact with the skin and mucous membranes, even in weeping inflammation.

Nystalocal® is used for skin conditions complicated or infected by yeasts or bacteria, e.g.:

• Chafing in the body folds (intertrigo)
• Inflammation of the glans and the inner layer of the foreskin (balanitis)
• Anal and perianal eczema
• Itching of the external female genitals (pruritus vulvae)
• Cracked corners of the mouth (perlèche), microbial eczema

Not suitable:

• for infants and young children
• during pregnancy

Application:

• Apply to the skin or mucous membrane 2 to 3 times daily
• the treated area should not exceed 10% of the body surface (roughly the area of one arm)

Duration:

• no more than 10 days
• once the inflammation has subsided, switch to a product without a corticosteroid

Application:

• Apply the ointment thinly to the affected areas.
• Do not get it in the eyes and do not use it in the middle ear.
• Do not make up for a missed application by using double the amount.

Important:

• If you have blurred vision or other visual disturbances, have this checked by a doctor.
• If the condition gets worse, stop the treatment and see a doctor.

Nystalocal® must not be used:

• if you are allergic to nystatin, chlorhexidine, dexamethasone, or any of the other ingredients
• for specific skin conditions (syphilis, tuberculosis), rosacea, perioral dermatitis, or chickenpox
• for vaccination reactions
• during pregnancy
• in infants and young children

Breastfeeding: Nystalocal® should not be used while breastfeeding.

Uncommon (1 to 10 in 1,000 users):

• skin irritation such as burning, redness, itching

Rare (1 to 10 in 10,000 users):

• local hypersensitivity reactions to the active ingredients or to macrogol

Very rare:

• generalized allergic reactions, contact dermatitis

Frequency not known:

• blurred vision

With prolonged use, cortisone-related skin changes may occur, such as steroid acne, rash around the mouth and eyes, inflammation of the hair follicles, dilated small blood vessels in the skin, thinning skin, or stretch marks.

When used together with antibiotics, nystatin can increase their effect (oxytetracycline) or reduce it (chloramphenicol). Tell your doctor about all medicines you are using.
