Mercilon

Mercilon is a low-dose combined pill from Organon with only 0.02 mg ethinylestradiol. It contains the progestin desogestrel and is the lower-dose sister of Marvelon.

The reduced amount of estrogen can lessen side effects such as nausea, breast tenderness and headaches, while contraceptive protection is maintained.

Mercilon works like other combined pills:

• Prevents ovulation
• Thickens the cervical mucus
• Alters the lining of the uterus

Particularly suitable for:

• Women who are sensitive to higher estrogen doses
• Women with estrogen-related side effects on other pills

• 0.02 mg ethinylestradiol (low-dose)
• 0.15 mg desogestrel
• 21 tablets

• One tablet daily, 21 days
• 7-day break
• As with all low-dose combined pills: at the same time of day if possible

Do not use in cases of existing or previous blood clots in veins or arteries (e.g. leg vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, heart attack), existing or previous stroke or their precursors (e.g. angina pectoris, TIA), known inherited or acquired tendency to form blood clots, major surgery with prolonged immobilization, high thrombosis risk due to several risk factors, migraine with focal neurological symptoms (including in the past), severe high blood pressure, diabetes with vascular damage, severe lipid metabolism disorders, liver diseases, hormone-dependent tumors, pregnancy. Women over 35 who smoke are strongly advised to use a different method of contraception.

Common: Headache, breast tenderness (usually milder than with higher-dose pills) Rare: Thromboses (the risk of venous thrombosis can be up to twice as high with pills containing desogestrel as with pills containing levonorgestrel)
