What is Seebri Breezhaler?
Seebri Breezhaler is a long-acting anticholinergic (LAMA) containing the active ingredient glycopyrronium bromide. It is used as long-term bronchodilator therapy for COPD and only needs to be inhaled once a day.
The Breezhaler is a capsule inhaler: a capsule is inserted, pierced, and the powder is inhaled. The whirring of the capsule confirms correct inhalation.
Glycopyrronium is also a component of the triple inhaler Trimbow. Seebri is manufactured by Novartis.
Active Ingredients & Mechanism of Action

Glycopyrronium blocks muscarinic receptors:
Mechanism of action:
- Inhibits M3 muscarinic receptors in the bronchi
- Blocks the bronchoconstrictive effect of acetylcholine
- Widens the airways
- Reduces mucus secretion
Time course:
- Rapid onset of action: within 5 minutes
- Duration of action: 24 hours
- Maximum effect: 1-4 hours
Who is it suitable for?
Seebri Breezhaler is suitable for:
- Long-term COPD therapy in adults
- As bronchodilator monotherapy
- In combination with LABA and/or ICS

How to Take
Breezhaler (capsule inhaler): 1. Pull off the protective cap 2. Open the mouthpiece 3. Place the capsule in the chamber 4. Close the mouthpiece 5. Press the side buttons at the same time (the capsule is pierced) 6. Breathe out deeply (not into the inhaler) 7. Close your lips around the mouthpiece 8. Breathe in forcefully and deeply 9. The capsule must whir – if not, breathe in again 10. Hold your breath 11. Check the capsule – if powder remains, inhale again
Important:
- Only take the capsules out of the blister shortly before use
- Do not swallow the capsules
Contraindications
Do not use in case of:
- Hypersensitivity to glycopyrronium or lactose
Use with caution in case of:
- Narrow-angle glaucoma
- Prostatic hyperplasia
- Severe renal insufficiency
- Severe heart conditions
Pregnancy: Limited data. Only if clearly indicated.
Breastfeeding: Not recommended.
Possible Side Effects
Common (1-10%):
- Dry mouth
- Nasopharyngitis
- Sleep disturbances
- Urinary tract infections
- Inflammation of the stomach and intestines (gastroenteritis)
Uncommon:
- Urinary retention
- Gastrointestinal complaints
- Skin rash
- Hypersensitivity reactions, including angioedema (swelling of the tongue, lips or face)
- Atrial fibrillation
- High blood sugar (hyperglycemia)
Frequency not known:
- Paradoxical bronchospasm
Note: Drinking fluids regularly helps with dry mouth.
Interactions
Use with caution with:
- Other anticholinergics (additive effect)
- QT-prolonging medications
Useful combination:
- With LABA (e.g., indacaterol)
- With ICS if needed
Frequently Asked Questions
The whirring shows that the capsule is spinning and releasing the powder. If you do not hear a whirring sound, you have not breathed in forcefully enough. In that case, try again.
Seebri contains glycopyrronium and has a rapid onset of action (5 min). Both are inhaled once daily. Spiriva has a longer track record of use.
