Mayra

Mayra is a combined birth control pill containing the progestin chlormadinone acetate and ethinylestradiol. Chlormadinone acetate has an antiandrogenic effect and can therefore help with acne and oily skin.

The pill is a generic of Belara and contains the same active ingredients.

Mayra prevents pregnancy through:

• Suppression of ovulation
• Thickening of the cervical mucus

In addition, Mayra has an antiandrogenic effect (against acne).

Suitable for:

• Acne and oily skin
• Irregular cycles
• A desire for cycle stabilization

• 2 mg chlormadinone acetate
• 0.03 mg ethinylestradiol
• 21 tablets

Take for 21 days, pause for 7 days.

Starting the pill:

• No hormonal contraception in the last month: start on the 1st day of your period
• Switching from another combined pill: preferably start on the day after the last active tablet, at the latest on the day after the usual tablet-free break or after the placebo tablets
• Switching from a mini-pill (on any day), an implant or a hormonal IUD (on the day of removal) or a hormonal injection (when the next injection would be due): additionally use a barrier method such as a condom for the first 7 days

Mayra must not be used in cases of:

• current or previous venous thromboembolism (e.g. deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism), a known hereditary or acquired predisposition to it, major surgery with prolonged immobilization or a high risk due to several risk factors
• current or previous arterial thromboembolism (e.g. heart attack) or early stages such as angina pectoris
• current or previous stroke or early stages such as a transient ischemic attack (TIA) in the past
• a known hereditary or acquired predisposition to arterial thromboembolism (e.g. hyperhomocysteinemia, antiphospholipid antibodies)
• a history of migraine with focal neurological symptoms
• a high risk of arterial thromboembolism due to several risk factors or one serious risk factor such as diabetes with blood vessel damage, severe high blood pressure or severe lipid metabolism disorders (dyslipoproteinemia)
• current or previous inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis) if associated with severely elevated triglycerides
• current or previous severe liver disease, as long as liver values have not returned to normal
• current or previous benign or malignant liver tumors
• known or suspected malignant tumors that depend on sex hormones (e.g. of the genital organs or the breast)
• vaginal bleeding that has not been diagnosed
• hypersensitivity to the active substances or any of the other ingredients
• concomitant use of hepatitis C medicines containing ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir and dasabuvir, glecaprevir/pibrentasvir or sofosbuvir/velpatasvir/voxilaprevir

If any of these conditions occurs for the first time while taking Mayra, it must be stopped immediately. Mayra is not indicated during pregnancy and should not be used until the child is fully weaned. Women over 35 who smoke are strongly advised to use another method of contraception.
