Quick navigation

What is thyroid?

Thyronajod Henning is a combination preparation of levothyroxin (thyroid hormone T4) and potassium iodide (iodine). It is used for the treatment of the thyroid subfunction with simultaneous iodine deficiency as well as for struma treatment and prophylaxis.

Thyronajod is available in various strengths, which allows individual dosage. It is comparable to Jodthyrox, but is produced by another manufacturer (Sanofi/Henning) and offered in different strengths.

The combination of hormone substitution and iodine supply is particularly useful for patients with non-autoimmune thyroid underfunction in iodine deficiency areas.

Active Ingredients & Mechanism of Action

Active ingredient: Levothyroxin-Natrium (T4) / Kaliumjodid

Thyronajod combines two active ingredients:

Levothyroxine (T4):

  • Replaces the missing thyroid hormone directly
  • is partially converted to active T3 in the body
  • Normalizes TSH and metabolism

Calium iodide (Jod):

  • Delivers iodine as a substrate for thyroid gland
  • Supports the remaining own production of thyroid hormones
  • Prevents compensatory growth of thyroid gland (surgery prevention)

Combination effect: Hormone replacement plus iodine supplementation – covers both aspects of thyroid care.
