Quick navigation

What is famenita?

Famenita contains micronized progesterone – a bioidentical hormone that is chemically identical to the body's own progesterone. It is used in hormone replacement therapy as stag protection for the cervical mucosa.

Women with intact uterus that receive estrogen additionally need a gestagen to protect the cervical mucosa from excessive growth. Micronized progesterone is considered the most natural form of gestagen protection.

Famenita can be administered orally or vaginally and is available in dosages of 100 mg and 200 mg.

Active Ingredients & Mechanism of Action

Active ingredient: Progesteron (mikronisiert) 100 mg / 200 mg

Micronized progesterone acts like the body's hormone:

Active mechanism:

  • Ties to progesterone receptors in the cervical mucosa
  • Converts the mucous membrane from the structure to the secretion phase
  • Prevents excessive growth (hyperplasia)
  • Protects against endometrium carcinoma under estrogen therapy

micronization:

  • Progesterone is comminuted in tiny particles
  • Better absorption in the intestine
  • Higher bioavailability as non-micronized progesterone

Additional effects:

  • Slightly sleep-promoting (especially when taken in the evening)
  • Anxiolytically (anxiolytically) by metabolites Allopregnanolone
  • More favourable risk profile than synthetic gestagenne
